Traveling to the Seychelles: How to Get There and What to Know

Traveling to the Seychelles is all about turquoise waters, peaceful beaches, and the unique rhythm of island life. Before your vacation begins, it’s essential to understand how entry to the Seychelles works for foreign visitors. This guide explains what you need to know before arrival and what procedures await you at immigration.

The Seychelles is a visa-free destination for almost all nationalities. A visa is not required to enter the country, except for holders of Kosovo passports. All other travelers simply need a valid passport and must complete standard immigration procedures. You can find the full list of requirements in the article

Required documents at entry

Visitors are issued a Visitor’s Permit upon arrival at the Seychelles. To obtain it, travelers must have:

  • a valid passport covering the entire stay;

  • a return or onward ticket;

  • confirmed accommodation;

  • sufficient funds — at least $150 per day;

  • no immigration violations or entry bans.

The initial permit is issued for up to 3 months and can be extended to a maximum of 12 months, provided the traveler continues to meet all requirements.

Important rules during your stay

While traveling to the Seychelles, tourists must always provide their correct residential address. Any changes should be reported to the Department of Immigration. Providing false information is considered a serious offense.

Arriving to the Seychelles by yacht

Many guests discover the Seychelles by sea, and in this case, procedures differ slightly:

  • an immigration officer boards the yacht and checks documents;

  • each person on board must complete a landing card;

  • the captain is responsible for all individuals on the vessel.

If a crew member chooses to stay onshore, immigration must be notified, and proof of accommodation, funds, and onward travel is required.

Renewing your permit

If the validity of a Visitor’s Permit is about to expire, the crew or guests must apply for an extension at the Immigration Office in Victoria. Applications must be submitted before the current permit expires.

Departing from the Seychelles

Before departure, the yacht captain must visit the immigration office with the passports of all persons on board and receive a departure authorization. An officer will later board the yacht for final clearance.
