Internet and Mobile Connectivity in Seychelles

When planning a trip to Seychelles, it is important to understand how internet and mobile connectivity work on the islands. Despite their remote location, Seychelles offer reliable mobile networks, though there are a few practical nuances travelers should be aware of.

Mobile operators in Seychelles

There are two main telecom providers in the country: Cable & Wireless Seychelles (CWS) and Airtel Seychelles.

Cable & Wireless Seychelles (CWS) is the largest and most stable operator. It provides mobile services, mobile data, home internet and TV.
4G/LTE covers Mahé, Praslin and La Digue, while 5G is available in selected areas of Mahé and Victoria.

Typical speeds:

  • 4G: 10–40 Mbps

  • 5G: up to 150 Mbps (limited zones)

CWS offers prepaid tourist packages from 1 GB up to 100 GB, valid from one day to one month. Fixed fiber internet is available only for long-term rentals and usually registered to the property owner.

Airtel Seychelles focuses mainly on mobile internet. Coverage is good on Mahé and Praslin, slightly weaker on La Digue. Speeds are generally lower than CWS but prices can be attractive for short stays.

Tourist data bundles range from 5 to 70 GB, valid up to 30 days.

Buying a local SIM card

SIM cards can be purchased:

  • at Mahé International Airport,

  • in operator offices in Victoria, Praslin and La Digue,

  • in supermarkets and phone shops.

A passport is required. Starter packs begin at around 50 SCR. Activation is immediate.

Wi-Fi in hotels and villas

Most hotels provide Wi-Fi, but quality varies by category. Five-star hotels usually offer stable connections, while mid-range hotels may limit speed or provide Wi-Fi only in common areas.

For villa rentals, internet quality depends on the property and provider. These details are important and are explained in our article on Rental rules in Seychelles, which we recommend reviewing before booking.

Where internet works best

  • Mahé — best connectivity, 5G, fiber, stable 4G

  • Praslin — reliable 4G, hotel Wi-Fi

  • La Digue — slower speeds, occasional interruptions

Remote islands such as Aldabra or Farquhar have little or no connectivity outside resorts.

Summary

For a comfortable stay or remote work in Seychelles, a local SIM card from CWS or Airtel is the most reliable option. Wi-Fi is sufficient for basic use, but mobile internet offers greater stability, especially when renting a villa.
